After camping on the middle of nowhere we got to Pahia (pronounced pie here. Sadly, we did not get pie, here….) early and booked ourselves a boat tour. We rejected the sailing options for something more Eddie friendly and set off in a good sized boat to look for dolphins and whales and explore the bay. We saw seals fanning themselves on a rocky island then a shoal of bright blue fishes just by the ‘hole on the rock’, the end of the row of islands in the bay.

We stopped at Urupukapuka island for a BBQ and we went for a quick snorkel before returning to town, seeing from afar some dolphins on the return. Having seen a vineyard with a restaurant allowing camping in the guidebook we needed no other excuse and headed straight there to taste some wines. A delicious dinner later, thanks here to Jan who gave us some NZ dollars for a birthday meal out! We took the 8 second walk back to the van feeling very pleased with ourselves.
