The Far North – Northland

Yes it really is called the far north, Far North District Council etc…

Despite a shocking night’s sleep (thanks Eddie) we got up at a decent time to head to ‘the far north’. We made it to Te Paki giant sand dunes in time for a spot of lunch, hired a boogie board and trekked on up. The views from the top were awesome, nothing but giant dunes, forest and a vast expanse of beach (90 mile beach, which is of course not 90 miles long). Eddie happily giggled away in his sling being passed between us while we bombed down the dunes on the board in turns.

Weeeeeeeeeeeee

Once our calves couldn’t bear the thought of climbing another dune, we returned to the van for a chill before heading to Cape Reinga for sunset, where some other people were having a lovely peaceful time until we came along with a slightly grumpy Eddie. However even he went quiet as the sun sank below the horizon bathing the islands in pink  and we took our chance to head back to tapotupotu camping area to catch up on sleep.
