Hot ‘n Steamy in Rotorua

You know it’s going to be a good day when your camper neighbour offers you free avocados.

Whakarewarewa living Maori villiage is where we chose to get our dose of geysers, bubbling mud and Maori culture, and not just because they use the hot pools in the village to cook you a hot dinner! We had a tour from one of the tribe, then saw a ‘cultural performance’ of women twirling Poi (like Maori pom poms on strings) and warriors doing haka and pulling war faces (as demonstrated below by Cat), before tucking into our steam cooked feast and then wandering the geothermal area to admire aforementioned bubbling mud and steaming lakes.

After all this taxing action we checked into a campsite with hot spring pools for the night and spent it chatting to locals and other tourists about tips for what to do next.
