Wellington

As the home of craft beer in NZ, we couldn’t really miss this. We snagged a free camping spot at Evan’s Bay Marina, got our laundry done, and went exploring!

The museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongerewa was a great use of a rainy afternoon! Filled with Mauri stories, legends  and artefacts, plus some large art installations we were two uncultured to appreciate…

Finishing night 1, it had to be craft beer! Dinner and drinks at the Fork & Brewer.

The next day, the weather had vastly improved so we set our to get a view of the city from Mt. Victoria . A massive park still wild in the middle of the city. Followed by FroYo and beer…

Another hill, the “Cable Car” (definitely a funicular) ride is a must, then return through the botanical gardens to NZ Parliament and the waterfeont followed by, you guessed it, more beer.

A quick stop to collect a new waterproof for Adam at Khatmandu, hopefully this one will actually keep some water out. Followed by beer.

Then time for dinner, and beer…. We found ourselves a pub with a free babysitting service. I.e, Eddie charmed the manager and went off exploring the kitchens, cellars, bar and pouring us a pint.

For our full day exploring Wellington, we gained a mission. How big is a New Zealand beer? Turns out, the standard is 425ml, or can be changed so that the drink still costs you about $12.

  • Fork & Brewer: 425ml
  • Fortune favours: 400ml
  • Foxglove: 425ml
  • Bar44: 450ml
  • Little Beer Quarter: 425ml

Another list to share, Eddie had started earning his keep! So far, due to Eddie charming people we have recieved:

  • 1 packet of rice cakes at the top of a 4hr hike
  • $6 off a laundry wash and dry service
  • 15% off a round off beers at Little Beer Quarter (Staff discount after Eddie did the pouring!)
