Nelson – Rest day

We had found ourselves a riverside campsite with mountain views for cheese dream breakfast with many Eddie Wiggles.

We then headed to Nelson, and found there were many exciting things to do!

We opted for cycling part of the Great Taste Trail. Basically a cycle path taking you past many breweries, vineyards and cafes. Sounds great! We hired bikes in Stoke (this one looks much nicer than the -on-trent version) and set off into what can only be described as gale force headwinds…..  not ideal. Through alot of leg muscle, we made it to Brightwater vinyard for a wine tasting (18+) / wiggle (Eddie).

The return direction was so much better! Tailwinds are underrated. The extra speed gave us time to stop off at Eddyline Brewery for a cheeky craft ale before returning the bikes.

Of course this being the Nelson area, there was another brewery on our walk home, and a very fine Chinese takeaway. Nom nom. Our “rest” day turned out to  include a 30km cycle! At least we didn’t have to cook…
