Milford Sound

We woke up freezing! The clear sky had dropped the temperature in the valley, and the van to around 0°C! Ice on the grass and windows. Happily, the sleeping bags / duvets were warm enough for the three of us snuggled in the bed.

Amazingly for a place with 200 days of rain a year, mostly is spring, we had a clear blue sky day for experiencing Milfod Sound! Worth the cold start.

Beginning with a boat tour up the sound, with Mountains, cliffs, waterfalls, seals and Penguins on full display! The boat captain could get our quite large boat impressively close to the shore / cliffs. Under waterfalls, next to the Fjordland Crested Penguin (Yay another rare NZ Penguin Spotted!)

Working back up the valley from the lakeshore saw us walking to canyons, waterfall cascades, mirror smooth lakes and most impressively, Key Summit just off the Routeburn Track Great Walk.

Another clear evening was ideal for driving towards Queenstown for our next day of adventure – it was a lot warmer though!
