We started horribly early in Auckland and only transited through Fiji this time, Eddie taking every opportunity to get massive Fijian smiles as we went through. We arrived in Singapore just in time for an evening jaunt back to marina sands to see more pretty lights, after which we stopped off for a very orange mee goreng before collapsing into bed

We followed this with a very relaxed morning as we had big evening plans: the night safari everyone had told us was a must-do. We readied ourselves for a night of hardcore touristing with an all you can eat Korean BBQ feast. How Adam had never heard of this I do not know, all you can eat meat that you cook yourself on an in table grill- right up his street!

We hopped into a cab to the zoo and followed the hoardes of tourists to get a tram through the night safari park. We passed hyenas, lions, tigers and elephants then went for a long walk through the park where we got up close to leopards, tigers, fishing cats, leopard cats and many other cats. Adam particularly enjoyed the flying foxes, aka enormous fruit bats. We also saw some very excited otters get their dinner. This being Singapore, there was of course a sound and light show (poor animals!) So we had a pootle round there to top it off.

After another leisurely morning we set out on a long walk on a scenic route going to new levels of excessive (it turns out Gardens by the Bay East is really not near anything at all) towards Sentosa island, half thinking of going to the beach. So of course we got hit by a thunderstorm and torrential tropical rain. On the plus side, for the hour that we sheltered in a new mall Eddie really got his crawling down. Once the leaf he was chasing was cruelly confiscated by a cleaner (Singapore is so clean!) he spent the rest of the time charming a crowd of adoring teenage girls. We eventually made our way to Sentosa via frozen yoghurt and Weissbier (we found some from the Weininger Brewery! Stolle’s local brewery in Singapore of all places!) For a last authentic Asian dinner of satay and noodles before heading back to the airport.
