Germany 3- Saxon Switzerland & Dresden

Of course, time to move on meant heading to a lake! We found a great camping spot 2mins walk from a lakeside beach. Whilst checking out the beach for a swim, it was way too inviting to not get the paddle board out! A quick morning swim soon turned into a morning as Cat caught up on sleep stolen by Sam.

By the afternoon we did get our act together and drove to the Saxon Switzerland national park for some proper walking. By proper of course we did have a 3 year old walking, and a broken toe…

Sadly we got to the Gasthouse 30 mins after closing, but the view from the Khulstall rock arch was epic and perfect for a picnic. The Stairway to heaven route above it was also suitably awesome.

The valley we’d set up camp in had a vintage tram line to ferry walkers and tourists, the Kirnitzschaltbahn had to be the key to our walk for the next day.

View from High Love mountain, with some Henrys in the way.

We trekked to the High Love mountain, which broke out above the forest for panoramic views powered by bribes of sweets, with a stop at a Gasthouse for lunch, and a tram ride home. Before we returned to the previous nights camping spot for a splash about in the river and dinner.

Friday we decided on a change from Hiking, and Cat had booked a guided tour around die Glaserne Manufaktur, a showcase factory in Dresden where electric vehicles were developed and ID.3s are made, just in case Adam and Eddie were keen. Turns out they were. We kick started the day with VW part no 199 398 500 (for those less geeky than Adam, this is their most popular product- not a car, but a sausage) in the cafe, then got show around the ‘transparent factory’ where the cars were being made with some info on how they were developed and built.

Adam followed this up with a test drive of an ID.4 while Eddie got to sit at the drivers seat of a different one (one that stayed stationary no matter how many buttons you pressed you’ll be glad to know- trust me, Eddie tried them all). We got a miniature train back to the van then went for bike rides round the park before a sleepy drive into Czechia.
