Keeping up the theme of making up for the lack of hill so far, we decided to skip Prague as both of us have been there before and head straight for more mountains.

We started with a day of castles: We camped under Frýdštejn Castle and wandered up in the morning to be fortunately let in by some chap with the keys as we’d accidentally come on a day it was closed. We sprinted around the ruins and Chambers carved into the stone Eddie having an excellent time as we had no time to read any info signs. We all climbed right to the top of the tower for some awesome views before letting the poor chap lock us out and heading back to the van.

Next stop was rock lookout Hlavatice, another of what we have come to view as classically Czech massive staircase up a rock with views of the surrounding countryside and town.

We went to admire the impressive Gothic castle Kost by having lunch in its restaurant, declining to pay to go inside due to admission only being on compulsory tours in Czech but enjoying a nice post fried cheese wander around the ramparts to find some ice cream.

Finally, time to head to camp under Trosky castle on a pretty little campsite full of hammocks and homemade kids playground stuff and sandpits made a great space for Eddie to tear around playing with the other kids and us to have some chill time (and importantly wash and fill up with water!)

We finished the day making the most of the massive firepits and unlimited wood supply and have a fire while lying on logs admiring the stars

We walked up to the massive castle that had been dominating the skyline since the lookouts of the previous day and were not disappointed by the epic views from the top of the ruined twin towers before an obligatory ice cream on the way down.

We decided to hit Rocks Prachov for the afternoon thinking it would be a good way to use the rest of the day and were blown away, the place was incredible! Well worth the entrance fee! Heaps of super impressive viewpoints and many steps, definitely regretteing the habit of giving Eddie a treat at each lookout we get to now running short of raisins after that trip…
