Plitvice Lakes
Enough cities, time to escape! Plitvice Lakes national park – Now this is how to build
boardwalk, well done Croatia! I’ve never walked on as much boardwalk anywhere, 22km through the park, many many waterfalls on 16 lakes! Also impressive was the effort from Eddie to walk about 9km! Boardwalks, paths, trees and stairs, all very entertaining. Also the route was broken up by a boat tip and Unimog powered road train!

Grabovaca Cave Park
One of the more random directions that we’ve had, on the Motorway we spotted a singular
sign for “Europes largest Cave Park” – That was enough to spark some interest. It was a
particularly narrow and steep road, that they were still building when we got to the end of it!
Handily, we arrived just in time to catch up with a cave tour! They’d just set off to walk to the cave, saying they’d wait for us – game on. Rapid aquisition of jumpers, socks & child carrying devices. Speedy walking the ~1km to the cave, overtaking a couple of walkers. Handily, those walkers (2 nice Brits on tour) were also going to the cave! So we unintentionally whooped them and then weren’t the people being waited for at the cave entrance. Winning.

The route through the cave was very pretty and filled with one of Eddie’s favourite things, Steps! Post cave we walked to the viewpoint ontop of the hill. Rocky scrambly nice woods filled with info signs about the lives of the local Lika community – sounds very hard! Turns out there are places in Croatia at height, with mountians, that don’t just get sun all year round… Snow, rain (some even came down over our lunch, forcing us to eat / hide in the playgrounds play house)

Top of the hill view was stunning, a great stop off although whilst this is Europe’s biggest cave park, I suspect it will lose that title if anyone else actually creates a cave park around their caves…
