Croatia – Trogir continued…

We arrived in Trogir for Cats birthday, but spent 3 nights there we had such a nice campsite and we found so much to do!

Happy boys on their van shelf

The day after Cats birthday mooch around Trogir, we started the day with a quick swim at our campsite beach then walked/cycled back into town to get the water bus to Split.

Arrival to Split by boat

After separating for Cat to go on a brief public transport adventure to Decathlon to get snorkeling gear (coming to this later…), Cat returned to the old town to find Adam and the boys happily ensconced in a square at a bar playing Uno, and we celebrated with another beer.

We then wound our way around the old town to the sights- starting with entering Diocletian’s Palace to find St. Dominus cathedral to climb the Bell Tower and see the town from above. Eddie happily charged up the tower shouting at the top of his voice before entering each staircase so no-one coming in the opposite direction had any doubt that the stair was already occupied.

Standard go-to-town-and-climb-up-tower task completed, we went on a mission for ice cream, soon after passing some friendly Germans who recognised us from our Zagreb tower adventures and once again congratulated Eddie on his excellent stamina for many steps.

We followed this with a very comprehensive mooch of Split eventually deciding on a restaurant in a tiny back alley which served us a delicious tuna steak (turns out if you call it a ‘steak’ Adam will consider ordering non battered seafood) and a veal and pea stew. Having originally thought the last boat would be far too late, we of course ended up on it after all meeting again the friendly Germans on the other side who complimented Eddie on his cycling as we headed back to the campsite after another jam packed day.

Our final day in Trogir we had big plans- boat tour with snorkeling! We’d checked out all the many tourist stands offering what seemed like essentially the same thing and hit the jackpot- the one that served wine all day rather than just with lunch. And the boat had a slide. Essentially, we were on the party boat.

Party boat leaving Trogir

We set off on our 3 island tour- first stop, the blue lagoon. Here we anchored in the middle of the lagoon for an hour long swim/slide/snorkel session- FYI, turns out full face snorkels are awesome. Eddie declined to try the ‘really big splash’ resulting from the slide which finished well above the water but was keen to climb down the ladder and go for a swim with Daddy so he did- first time swimming totally out of his depth, well done Eddie!

Swimming in the blue lagoon

Eddie enjoyed counting us in for slides and jumps from the top deck while it seemed like Sammy made a French lady’s trip (who it seemed had ended up on the party boat by accident rather than by design and did not seem too interested either in swimming or in wine that came from plastic bottles).

Next we stopped at the town of Maslinica on Šolta Island for some lunch (with more wine obvs) and a wander then moved on to another beach on another island for more snorkeling and swimming before hopping back on the boat to Trogir where we had a good chat to some Ukranian and Polish chaps (both very appreciative of the wine in plastic bottles indeed and appreciating valiant attempts to obtain more from less thirsty areas of the boat), our ‘early night’ turning into another full on day as the boat teturned over an hour late (too much partying!)

The next day it was time to move on- goodbye excellent seaside campsite, time to head to a new island!
