A bonus country from our original plan, but we’d heard from lots of different people that this was not one to miss.
To make the most of our planned (yes, we occasionally have a plan) 2 days in Montenegro, we left the campsite early to jump across the border and gain more stamps for Sammy’s new passport.

Kotor town is a mix of Dubrovnik & Ston, old town surrounded by walls, but with a fortress above and superhuman skills on show from the Venitians / locals who build large defensive walls up vertical cliffs! A quick lap of the walls and climb to the church above earned a break in a central cafe, before packing up and samping the wines of the giant “Sipcanik” cellar. Converted from an old secret under-mountain aircraft hanger, we toured, tasted and ran around in circles enjoying the echo…. Very nice wines with a Montenegrin grape.

We settled down with our bottles of Montenegtin vino for the night and watched the sun set over the mountians. Now we understand why people told us to come here…

For our 2nd day in Montenegro, we drove back through the mountains to the coast. We climbed to an abandoned fort for an explore, before saying no to the tourist beach and walking to a “Tunnel beach” that we’d seen on Google maps. Through the slightly suspect tunnel, we popped out at a hidden cove with clear water and sunshine! This was then our beach spot for the rest of the afternoon.

That night we boarded a ferry across the Adriatic to start our journey to Greece.
