We arrived at Kastoria with an afternoon to spare, and what with it being a little bit cloudy and rain in the air a show cave seemed like a good idea. We took all of 30mins to explore dragon cave, then emerged into sunshine- winning!

Parked for the night at a nice spot on the lakeshore, I went off to wander the town then find a good Taverna with WiFi to sort some life admin while Adam and Eddie set off to cycle around the ‘Island’ (more of a protrusion into the lake attached to the shore at the town side by a thin strip of land).

Missions completed, we met up at the taverna for a massive dinner and accidentally managed to get through 1.5L of wine between us (maybe disproportionately consumed by me during life admin, fingers crossed none of that comes back to bite me…).

The next morning we had van Brunch by the lake then it was my turn to bike around the lake with Eddie, checking out the little monastry and another cave en route.

In the afternoon we headed to Edessa, or ‘Town of burbling brooks and waterfalls’ as per the guidebook. Most exciting bit of the journey was seeing the tortoise cross the road!

Waterfalls were epic, the biggest ome concealing a cave behind it which obviously we had to explore. The town a bit scruffy around the edges with some old play equipment with a bike powered archimedes screw which would have been excellent had it not fallen into disrepair some years ago from the looks of it. Fingers crossed it gets the revamp that seems to be in progress at the upper waterfalls park- it’ll be awesome if they do!
