Next, to the Peloponnese! We reluctantly left our beautiful campsite outside Delphi for a pre-breakfast sprint past Athens and break for shopping and pastries before stopping at the Corinthian canal.

We rapidly worked out that the less off route section to see the sinking bridge at the end was definitely the less impressive and headed inland to the bridges there with steep cliffs of the man-made cutting plummeting beneath (and bungee jumpers of course).

Next we headed to Acrocorinth, an enormous fortress built to protect the Peloponnese from land attacks in a place where most of the isthmus joining it to mainland Greece can be seen.

It’s a massive place with 3 layers of walls to pass through via archways before reaching the inner circle with towers, churches and an underground ‘fountain’ used as a water source, which we decided to make the trek to having realised we’d actually seen most of the rest of the fortress on our honeymoon and just forgotten we’d been there! Still, it was so enormous there was plenty of new things to see even for us and Eddie enjoyed a good tower scramble on the way.

We ended the day with a quick beach stop and an epic playground before a sleepy drive south to a passenger ferry port at Metochi… Next stop, Hydra island!
